Women’s Health Issues

Roughly 1 in 8 women experience postpartum depression following childbirth, and women are 40% more likely to experience depression during perimenopause than women not yet in that transition. These are not separate phenomena. Across the reproductive lifespan, hormonal shifts create windows of vulnerability that are distinct to women’s biology and that standard mental health screening often misses.

At Miami Counseling & Resource Center, we provide mental health support for women navigating the psychological dimensions of health conditions and life-stage transitions that are specific to being female.

Areas We Address

  • Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)
  • Perinatal mental health, including depression and anxiety during pregnancy
  • Postpartum depression, anxiety, and related mood disturbances
  • Pregnancy loss, including miscarriage and stillbirth
  • Perimenopause and menopause-related mood changes
  • Sexual health concerns and intimacy
  • Chronic illness and its psychological impact

Treatment for Women’s Health Concerns

Treatment is tailored to each woman’s health history and presenting concerns. Our clinicians draw on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, supportive therapy, and other evidence-based approaches to address the mood and anxiety symptoms that accompany hormonal transitions and health-related stress. Psychiatric evaluation and medication management are available in-house, and our clinicians coordinate with medical providers when appropriate.
