ABOUT ME
Isis Arenas is an empathic therapist who understands that every client is unique and regards the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist as the most important factor in therapy. Isis is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. She is delighted to be a part of the team of experienced and dedicated clinicians at MCRC. Isis received her Educational Specialist degree in Mental Health Counseling from Florida Atlantic University and a Master of Education degree in School Counseling from the University of Central Florida. Before going into the counseling field, Isis earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from Florida International University and has experience as a teacher.
Born and raised in Miami, Isis has been immersed in the multicultural community of this vibrant city her whole life. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. When Isis worked as a school counselor for over seven years, she was exposed to and worked with a variety of children and adolescents ages 5-18. She has worked with children and adolescents facing a multitude of obstacles including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Self-esteem issues
- Sexual identity
- Trauma
- Family conflict
She has facilitated several groups in the school setting. Some of the topics addressed include:
- Positive communication
- Self-esteem issues
- Time management skills
- Anger management
- Stress/anxiety
- College and career readiness
She has also facilitated mediation and therapeutic interventions between children and their families.
Isis has experience working with adults and couples in a therapeutic setting as a graduate student at the University of Central Florida. She completed her practicum at UCF’s Community Counseling and Research Center where she was exposed to many different clients presenting with a variety of issues.
Isis is aware of the importance of mindfulness when working with clients of all ages and, when appropriate, incorporates mindfulness techniques when working with clients. Her therapy approach is primarily Client-Centered and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
