PSYCHOLOGIST

ABOUT ME

Dr. James Pann is a licensed psychologist at the Miami Counseling & Resource Center who works with adults navigating the psychological demands of leadership, career transitions, and life direction. He brings 25+ years of clinical, academic, and consulting experience to his work, integrating evidence-based clinical and positive psychology with a deep familiarity with the realities of professional and organizational life.

Dr. Pann completed both his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and his M.S.Ed. in Mental Health Counseling at the University of Miami, his APA-accredited internship at Nova Southeastern University’s Community Mental Health Center (with rotations in neuropsychological assessment, adult and child/adolescent services, and biofeedback), and a postdoctoral fellowship in family therapy at the University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Medical Center. Before turning to psychology, he earned a B.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin, a background that continues to inform his work with executives, business owners, and professionals navigating the financial and organizational realities of their careers.

Clients come to Dr. Pann at moments of high stakes and quiet uncertainty: an executive whose performance is strong but whose stress has become unsustainable, a physician or attorney weighing a major change, a mid-career professional sensing it is time to redesign the next chapter, an entrepreneur carrying the psychological weight of building a business. He brings warmth, careful listening, and a structured, goal-oriented approach. Sessions are grounded in clinical assessment when needed, and informed by cognitive-behavioral, positive psychology, and mindfulness-based frameworks.

Dr. Pann’s areas of focus include:

  • Executive and leadership coaching for high-accountability roles
  • Career counseling, vocational assessment, and life design
  • Stress, burnout, and anxiety management
  • Mindfulness-based therapy
  • Entrepreneurship and business psychology
  • AI adaptation and navigating workplace change
  • Adult psychotherapy for depression, anxiety, and life transitions

A long-standing personal and professional commitment to mindfulness and meditation runs through Dr. Pann’s practice. He was a Co-Principal Investigator on the Stress Reduction through Attention Training (SRAT) research project, an online mindfulness intervention developed for university students, faculty, staff, and K–12 teachers, and his published work in the American Journal of Evaluation examines how mindfulness supports sustained, high-quality professional practice. In session, these tools translate into practical strategies for focus, stress regulation, and psychological resilience.

Dr. Pann also has extensive experience in psychological and career assessment. He integrates validated instruments (vocational interest, personality, aptitude, and values measures) into a counseling process that helps clients understand themselves clearly enough to make decisions they can live with. This work draws on years of conducting neuropsychological and psychological evaluations across child, adolescent, adult, and elderly populations, including assessment for ADHD, learning differences, anxiety, depression, and giftedness.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Pann is a Professor at Nova Southeastern University, where he was named Professor of the Year in 2024 by the Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice. He is also the founder of EvalNetwork, a consulting firm he has run for more than two decades. Because he also runs a business, manages contracts, teaches, and consults to healthcare and human-service organizations, his guidance to professional clients is informed by direct experience, not just theory.

Dr. Pann is a Certified Heroic Coach and an avid mindfulness and meditation practitioner.

Dr. Pann is always happy to speak briefly with prospective clients to discuss fit and how he might help. He can be reached at the main number (305) 448-8325.
