Marie E. Acosta, M.S., LMHC

Mental Health Counselor
About Me

Marie is a Miami native. She is recognized as a compassionate, perceptive, and spirited professional. Marie’s dedication to the counseling profession is demonstrated by her motivation to expand her knowledge on the most pertinent evidence-based strategies in order to best assist her clients in navigating life’s challenges.

In a non-judgmental, supportive and empowering manner, Marie works with a wide range of individuals, from children and teenagers, to adults and the elderly, as well as with couples and families. She strives to build a warm therapeutic alliance with her clients. Therapy is approached as a journey in which the counselor assists the client to gain new perspectives on life, recognize their inner strengths, explore and process feelings in a safe space, and to begin the healing process. She helps clients with an array of issues, such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, self-esteem, and conflict resolution in interpersonal relationships.

Marie excels at building trust with children and adolescents in a safe environment. She incorporates games and creative expression to promote rapport building. She may suggest to parents or caregivers to participate in session with their child. When appropriate, Marie provides recommendations to parents/caregivers that will promote their child’s success at home and at school. At the same time, she encourages and incorporates parents’ feedback about their child’s progress.

Her approach with marital/couples therapy consists of teaching couples healthy communication skills, intimacy building, constructive conflict resolution strategies, and learning how to embrace their unique and positive contributions towards their relationship. She facilitates conversations with couples around modern day societal expectations of romantic relationships and marriage. Amongst others, relationship expert, Esther Perel, has influenced Marie’s work with couples.

In addition to the issues mentioned above, Marie also assists with the following:

  • Anger Management
  • Grief
  • Life Transitions
  • Trauma
  • Vulnerability and Shame
